Parenting Class Tip: Kids often refuse to open up when conditions aren't suitable for talking to parents. Provide some privacy so they will feel comfortable talking about sensitive issues otherwise you may get only denials and protests. It also helps to listen more and talk less - try to understand where they are coming from - ask them how they "feel" about the situation and what they "think" should have happened. Kids who have a problem communicating with parents often have a greater risk of getting involved with drugs and other unsafe behaviors. For more information on communicating with your children check out our parenting classes.
